Foglight has a website now

foglight.site is live, in English and Chinese, with the promo video, a walkthrough of how it works, and download links for Windows and Mac. A web version is under construction too: if you'd use it, tap "I want the web version" on the site. Thanks to Jiakai Li for a huge contribution to getting it launched.

Foglight

The site now sends security headers

The site now sends a Content Security Policy, HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options, X-Frame-Options, Referrer-Policy and Permissions-Policy. Scripts, styles and fonts load only from this site (plus Google Fonts), and the pages can no longer be embedded in other sites. I checked the home page, the Chinese page, Survive, Keji and the Foglight page in a browser: no console errors, the game plays, and the Keji download still starts.

v0.3.1 · Windows & Mac

Foglight

Turns your slides and notes into quiz levels, and every answer points back to the page it came from.

Foglight is a desktop app for studying. Drop in a PDF, a PowerPoint (.pptx), a Word file, or a YouTube video with captions, and it builds short levels of multiple-choice questions plus a spaced-repetition review queue.

Backtest overfit check

Send me a backtest and I'll tell you whether it looks like skill or luck. Free, within 7 days.

A great backtest screenshot proves very little. If you tried 26 versions and kept the best one, some of that "edge" is just luck. This check measures how much.

KeJi

A browser extension for taking notes while you watch online lectures.

KeJi is a small Chrome / Edge extension for students who learn from video. It helps you take notes while a lecture plays, without leaving the page. Version 0.4.0 is in testing. It works on Windows and Mac, in Chrome and Edge (not Safari or Firefox).

Survive

A browser game on a real stretch of market history with the dates blacked out. How long can you last?

Each game draws one real stretch of daily prices (crude oil, natural gas or an exchange rate) and hides the dates and the instrument. You turn a single risk knob from −1× (bet on a fall) to 3× (bet on a rise). Your capital bleeds a little every second, so sitting in cash won't save you. It shatters when it falls to a line that starts at 65% of your start and rises by half of whatever you gain. You play the same stretch three times; from the second round on, the ghost of your last run follows you.
